Month of Literacy

The Month of Literacy is part of the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County’s Early Grade Literacy program.

Every Spring, UWNCC staff and volunteers distribute new books to students kindergarten to 3rd grade.

Why third-grade literacy matters?

“Up until the end of third grade, most children are learning to read. Beginning in fourth grade, however, they are reading to learn, using their skills to gain more information in subjects such as math and science, to solve problems, to think critically about what they are learning, and to act upon and share that knowledge in the world around them.” (AECF.org Early Warning Full Report 2010, pg 9)

2020 Month of Literacy opportunities will be posted soon
